Opening: Art/Nature - Artistic Interventions IV

With interventions of the visual artists Mark Dion, Assaf Gruber and Elizabeth Price as well as a live audition with the composer Ulrike Haage the fourth and last round of the Art/Nature project will be inaugurated.

For this round US artist Mark Dion who is well known for his works in museum contexts studied the specific material culture of researchers at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin through time. The Israeli video artist Assaf Gruber produced a film in the environment of historical animal dioramas which deals with a coral expedition in DDR times and the work of taxidermists. Through her installation the British artist Elizabeth Price opens up a window into the museum’s history. The composer Ulrike Haage created a poetic micro-opera for singers, marimba, xylophone, chimes and percussion through which she will bring alive the museum’s famous wet collection at four performance dates in February and March. Mark Ravenhill wrote the libretto for the micro-opera. Afterwards there will be the chance for talks with the artists and curators Bergit Arends, Dorothée Brill, Christine Heidemann (visual arts) as well as Gaby Hartel (sound art).
