In order to be able to talk digitally about various topics related to parasites, the spread of pathogens, global health and our relationship with nature, we started with our event series on the 20th of April. We will address current issues relating to the coronavirus and the transmission from animals to humans. Every Monday we invite scientists to talk to us about their research and discuss our questions.
When was the last time you actually saw a frog? Where tadpoles and frogs were a constant companion of our childhood, today you have to search for it. The amphibians, higher species diversity than mammals, are in a crisis! Already a third of all species are threatened with extinction and the tendency is increasing. Not only are fascinating evolutionary achievements being lost, we humans will also suffer. We would like to discuss the central role amphibians play for our ecosystem and our medical research with Mareike Petersen and Mark-Oliver Rödel, scientists at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.
