On the way to the World Conference on Nature: What course must be set for German and European policy now?

The Network Forum on Biodiversity Research Germany (NeFo) and the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU) cordially invite you to an evening event. In the run-up to the second part of World Conference on Nature COP15, we will discuss the new global goals for the protection of nature and the German Biodiversity Strategy with the Federal Minister for the Environment Steffi Lemke and a high-level panel. The event will take place with invited guests at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin and will be livestreamed online.

The following questions will be in the foreground:

  • Where do the international negotiations on the new global goals for nature conservation stand and what is our national position?
  • Why is the issue of Digital Sequence Information (DSI) so relevant?
  • How can we strengthen biodiversity and nature conservation policy in Germany and Europe?
  • How should responsible parties work together to meet the challenges of biodiversity and climate protection?

Programme

  • 18:00 – 18:15: Welcome by Mr. Alexander Bonde (Secretary General of the German Federal Environmental Foundation, DBU) and Prof. Johannes Vogel (Director General of the Museum of Natural History - Leibniz Institute for Research on Evolution and Biodiversity, MfN)
  • 18:15 – 18:35: Keynote speech by Federal Minister Steffi Lemke with short Q&A session
  • 18:35 – 18:50: Impulses by Prof. Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese (Director of the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre and DBU Environmental Award Winner 2021) and Prof. Dr. Jörg Overmann (Director of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures) and flash on two new studies: "Analysis of the German Biodiversity Strategy" (Dr. Yves Zinngrebe, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH, UFZ) and "10 Must-Knows from Biodiversity Research" (PD Dr. Kirsten Thonicke, Leibniz Research Network Biodiversity, LFN Biodiv)
  • 18:50 – 19:30: Panel discussion and Q&A session with: Alexander Bonde, Prof. Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese, Prof. Dr. Jörg Overmann, Prof. Johannes Vogel and Dr. Bettina Hoffmann, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection
