Unnatural Selection: Talk with director Leeor Kaufman

About a month after the release of the Netflix series Unnatural Selection we are pleased to welcome the screenwriter and director of the series, Leeor Kaufman, to the Experimental Field at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.

The British newspaper The Guardian calls them "eye-opening": The four episodes of Unnatural Selection provide a view into biotechnology and in particular the now widespread use of the genome editing method CRISPR. Scientists, corporations and biohackers describe their perspectives on the possibilities and risks of CRISPR. Anything seems possible – intervention in evolution, an end to the threats posed by disease, and the permanent alteration of genetic material. The museum picks up on the debate around the topic, particularly focusing on ethical questions, together with scientists and visitors. After a series of successful events on the subject in the Experimental Field in recent months, you are now invited to discuss the opportunities and risks of scientific progress.

Leeor Kaufman will provide an overview on the experiences and challenges involved in making the series and then lead an open discussion together with Julia Diekämper, project manager of "ZukunftMensch" and Museum researcher Faysal Bibi.

The event will be held in English.
